Lots of Sam references this week although that looks to be the main focus for the remainder of the series. I knew the moment I saw that large package from Manchester that it would reveal to be Sam's jacket and of course I was right. Last week they implied Gene killed Sam, this week they outright accused him and I'm feeling rather sick about it. I've ranted all of it last week so I won't mention it again.

I can't believe they're really doing this..

-I know I saw it in the preview but him ripping off Sam's obituary and crinkling it broke me.In fact, every time they mentioned Sam I broke down. I'm a pathetic mess so thank you Matthew and Ashley.
-I've never cared much either way about Shaz so it didn't matter much to me whether she stayed or left. I like her well enough but I never could see her as part of the group. Although I didn't want her to die so I was a bit worried for a minute about that.
-I'd have laughed if Gene would have received a lot of replies. Would have from almost anyone I know anyway.
-Nothing to do with the episode but I really hate 80s hair!Chris.
-Again, nothing to do with the episode but I always dreaded DI Carling and this episode outlined a bit of why.
-I no longer hate Alex, but then if I'm honest I haven't hated her for a while.
-I can't decide if the Uptown Girl segment was complete brilliance or not.If I'm honest the answer is probably yes. Serious!Lucy isn't much fun.
-Keats, I hate you with a fiery passion and I hope you enjoy your inevitable fall.

-Philip Glenister  I fucking love you. Seriously, you are a metric fuckton of awesome with a side of crisps.

The way I'm interpreting it, the point of the accusations against Gene is mostly that they make Alex doubt him. I'm interpreting it as a kind of LoM 2x08 situation, in the way that the main character doubts Gene and has their desperation taken advantage of by some slimy git in order to convince them to betray him, when all along all they had to do was trust the Gene Genie (I notice he doesn't seem to refer to himself that way in a2a - wish I could see his face when he learned what the song was about). I see the whole plot with the 'did he or didn't he?' thing as a test of Alex rather than Gene.

I don't really like Chris' hair either. Makes me think of roosters... I like roosters. They're pretty. But people probably shouldn't take fashion tips from them.

What didn't you like about Carling as a DI? I'm unobservant and didn't notice any change in his behavior...

The thing I love most about the Uptown Girl thing is imagining how much fun Glenister (and the rest of the actors, but mostly him) must have had with it. He looks like he was really getting into it. (The other thing I love about it is wondering how many vids will use that clip of Gene reaching into his trousers.)
