Wow, this is just gorgeous. You have a gift for picking music I'd never think of and then creating the perfect imagery to go with is. I love how you use both LoM and A2A in this. You really stayed in canon, created a totally realistic mood and still didn't Ashes bash. (I'm the rare breed who loves both shows equally but for different reasons). I think this is true to character, evocative and stunning. Nice work, I enjoy all your vids!
Thank you very much. I have to admit that while I do like A2A I could never care about it as much as I do LoM. Now, you can blame that on me being a Simm/Sam fangirl, slave of the original series or the fact that I actually prefer the grittier, lower budget of Life on Mars (I find Ashes too polished and the 'pig in space' moments far less haunting. In Life on Mars they border psychological terror where as in Ashes they're like a bad acid trip). I am not a big fan of Alex and actually wanted to hit her in the first series but I admit she did get better and series two is quite good.
On its own I think A2A is a fantastic series but if forced to make comparisons (and it's difficult not to) it's easily found wanting. I do love Gene though and he's honestly the only reason I moved to Ashes and even then it took me quite a while to do it. I knew if I watched it I would have to admit that Sam is dead and to be honest I am still not ready for it. I get a tight feeling in my chest when they mention his name and every single time I watch an episode I have to go back and watch an episode of Life on Mars afterwards.
I love them both, they are very different, but I think they are both great. I love the flashy acid tripiness of A2A because I think it works for the 80's London feel. (I lived in London in the 80's for a bit so it's also sentimental for me). Here's what I love about Alex. In 2008, she has to be very masculine, tough and non emotional, as does every woman working in a traditionally man's field. But when she wakes up in the 80's she is crazy feminine, slutty, and a raging emotion. It was such a joy to watch her get to be volatile and emotional and not care because she thinks everyone else isn't real. It did get a bit annoying with all the "imaginary constructs" stuff, but overall, I liked the heightened emotion of her because women never get to act like that and if we do, we're crazy bitches. But I also loved the second series and enjoyed the change in her relationship to Gene, having it be all about trust and working together. I think she is a great foil for him as if she picked up where Sam left off for Gene. As for the romance aspect, Gene could shag either of them...or anyone for that matter and I'd be all for it, as long as Gene is in there somewhere! I must be a Gene/Phil fangirl!

Thanks and keep making vids, I'm enjoying them!
